5 Ways We Use Steppit for Internal Training

One of the great things about Steppit is that it can be used across a number of different areas, including internal training. Now, you’re probably wondering how you would implement it through your company's workstreams, but let us take you through how we use different courses for the Steppit team.

Onboarding

When a new employee joins, we have a great onboarding package. We’ve designed our course units so that each covers a core topic such as: contracts and core documents, setting up accounts, meeting the team, understanding Steppit's culture, an office tour, an introduction to customer service and how our backend system works.

Because we cover a number of different types of class options, we are able to create an open cohort for new employees being onboarded. This way, they can access all the course materials at once rather than a weekly unlocking.

We send this before the first day so new starters can feel more confident and can hit the ground running.

Kickstarting projects remotely

Since we all work from home 75% of the time, we create mini-courses used for briefing the team on projects that are starting. So when we kick off the first core meeting everyone is already informed on what we’ll be working on and come to the table with pre-brainstormed ideas.

Steppit sessions for internal training can be an invaluable resource and your courses don’t have to be several units either. Quick, short videos that can summarise a task quickly with all the essential information is key.

Career development training

As an online platform we can’t not be obsessed with developing our skills, growing as both a company and as individual people! Each of the senior team has created courses in their own specialist areas, passing down knowledge and inviting team members to learn new skills.

Our Director of Marketing, Hannah, has created a simple course on an introduction to SEO and keyword market research for her marketing team. She’s been using this course as a nifty tool to help onboard marketing associates new to the team.

Group team training

Now we don’t expect our team to know everything, that’s simply impossible! But we do like to continuously learn together, so regulary we host courses with external trainers. Some of the courses we have produced and held sessions on are project management, presentation skills and data analytics. Everyone can take these around their work schedules, when they want. The chat feature allows other team members participating in the same course to do the group tasks together.

Handover

Having several documents with extensive detail, processes and systems can be really difficult to manage. Small details can get lost in translation and written words can sometimes be harder to understand than just watching a simple step-by-step video.

At Steppit, if people are heading off on holiday for a few weeks, we want to ensure that their role is still covered in their absence. We’ve created mini open sessions for ongoing projects and customer service operations.
